Fingerpainting with Whipped Cream!

For a few years, I taught in the two year old class.  I tried to provide as many sensory experiences as I could, but since two year old children often put things in their mouths, the best sensory experiences were those with edible ingredients.  Fingerpainting with whipped cream was a hit! Clean up is easy when you use paper plates.  This works well with older children also. Who doesn't love whipped cream?

Here is a link to my Pinterest board with many ideas for sensory activities:

Easy New Year's Project for Preschoolers

This is a quick and easy project that I did last year with my prekindergarten students. It was great for building fine motor skills! I die cut the numerals for "2016" and the children glued them on in order on a piece of construction paper. I had them lay the numbers out first and then flip them and glue them (this was actually a hard concept for some of them!) Once that was done, they were able to glue sparkle confetti around the edge (I use a box top to keep the mess to a minimum!)

We sang this song:
Happy New Year,
Happy, Happy, New Year.
Happy New Year
2016!
(to "Alouette")

They love shouting the last line!

We used this song as our "poem" of the week as well. Since our letter of the week was Yy, they circled the letter on their individual copies before adding it to their poetry notebooks.

Merry Christmas to me!

My daughter just gave me an amazing Christmas gift...she started this blog for me! I have been talking about writing a blog for some time, but was hesitant to begin and concerned about the time that it would take and the technical aspects.

I am passionate about early childhood education, play based learning and developmentally appropriate practices. I love searching for creative teaching ideas and both my house and my classroom are filled with more than I can ever use. I am so excited to have a new way to share and highlight some of the wonderful things going on in the wonderful world of preschool!
